OUZO FESTIVAL OF PALESVIAKI ENOSIS

On Sunday 6 February 2011, Palesviaki Enosis of Melbourne and Victoria, hosted OuzoFest11 with great success.  The Ouzo Festival is a high profile annual event which attracts large crowds. 

The outdoor event was held at the premises of Palesviaki amongst the trees of the property.  Despite unstable weather conditions in the morning, a large crowd turned out  to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of fabulous music, tasty traditional greek food and plenty of ouzo.  An afternoon for the whole family, there was a jumping castle and face painting for the children.

The event was attended by the Honourable Heidi Victoria, Member of the Seat of Bayswater, Mr. Demetris Tsilikis, representing the Consul General of Greece Ms Eleni Lianidou, Mr, George Eyripidou, Manager of Laiki Bank and representatives of Pan-Lesvian Federation of Australia and New Zealand and Mytilenean Brotherhoods in NSW.

 

The event was opened by the President of Palesviaki Enosis Melbourne and Victoria Mr Peter Demetriou with a warm welcome, followed by the Honourable Heidi Victoria who described her close ties with our Association and expressed her warm feelings towards the Greeks of Melbourne.  Next Mr Tsilikis delivered a warm message on behalf of the Consul General of Greece.   The event was also addressed by the President of Pan-Lesvian Federation of Australia and new Zealand Mr George Stavrinos, the President of Mytilenean Brotherhood in Sydney Mr Stavros Kritikos.

This year Palesviaki also hosted a photo exhibition titled “Our Journey” by our fellow Mytilenean Vasilis Vasilas on the journey of migrants from Lesvos to Australia.  An important piece of work which records our migration history for our future generations. The crowds were entertained by the band TA LEVENTOPEDA and traditional dances from the island of Lesvos presented by the dancing group PEGASUS.  A memorable day for all.

EXCURSION TO LAKES ENTRANCE, GIPPSLAND
19 - 21 FEBRUARY, 2011

The Seniors Club of Palesviaki has organised a three day excursion to Lakes Entrance from 19 to 21 February 2011 and invites other members of Palesviaki to join them. 

Due to limited availability of bus seats and accommodation you are invited to register your interest by 31/12/2010 with the President of the Seniors Club George Adalis.

Bookings will be taken strictly on a first-come-first-served basis until the trip is fully booked.  Ticket price is $300 per person and includes bus tickets, accommodation, full buffet breakfast and dinner at the Esplanade Resort and Spa.

LIBERATION OF LESVOS CELEBRATIONS 2010

This year marked the 98th anniversary of Liberation of the island of Lesvos from the Turks and once again Palesviaki Enosis of Melbourne and Victoria honored those who fought and died for our freedom. 

150 people attended this year’s Liberation celebrations including representatives from other Mytilenean clubs and dignitaries.  The day commenced with the  memorial service at the Greek Orthodox Church of Apostolos Andreas in Forrest Hill. 

The celebrations continued at the Palesviaki premises where a wreath was layed. The president Mr P. Demetriou then made the celebratory speech which was followed by the Pegasus dancing group, which danced traditional dances of Lesvos. 

This was followed by the customary celebratory “Glenti” at the Mytilenean house where everyone enjoyed the great food, music and plenty of ouzo.

FASKOMILIA PARTY

The "Committee of Faskomilia" is once again organising this special traditional event on Sunday 8 August 2010 from 1pm to 6.30pm at the premises of Palesviaki, 26 WALDHEIM ROAD, BAYSWATER.

The menu includes traditional food of the island, a free bottle of Ouzo at each table, wine and soft drinks.

Entertainment is provided by the DJ Nikos Karadimas of 3XY.

Ticket price: $30.00 for adults and free admission for children under 12 years old.

Palesviaki Enosis Melbourne and Victoria invites you to come and enjoy with us traditional Greek music, dance, food and ouzo in true Mytilenean style from the Greek island of Lesvos.

 

This year at OuzoFest10, we will be hosting our fellow Mytileneans from other States, making for a grand “get together” of Mytileneans from around Australia.

 

This year’s Ouzo Festival includes:

The Greek band  'Leventopeda'  performing live.

‘Pegasus’ and the ‘Greek Orthodox Community’ Dancing groups, performing Greek dances in traditional Greek costumes.

Children’s activities including a Jumping Castle.

You can purchase traditional Greek fare such as, char-grilled octopus, gyros, Greek salad, sardines in brine, feta cheese, beer and soft drinks.

Entrance is $15 per adult, includes OUZO and a commemorative ouzo glass.  children under 18 yrs, free admission.
